Horse Show Recovery: What to Do Between Classes

Posted by Three Horse Supply on

Recovery between classes matters because the day is not over. A horse may have to stand, warm up again, haul later, and perform more than once. Between-class care should be quick, calm, and repeatable.

The goal is to help the horse reset without overcomplicating the day. Walk, check, clean, protect, and keep the next class in mind.

Between-class routine

  1. Walk the horse and let breathing and attitude settle.
  2. Check legs, back, girth area, saddle marks, and sweat pattern.
  3. Brush or towel away sweat and dirt.
  4. Use Draw It Out® horse care and recovery products where the routine calls for them.
  5. Apply Citraquin® fly defense if bugs are part of the day.

Keep the kit ringside or trailer-ready

Do not send recovery products back to the truck if the horse still has work to do. Keep towels, grooming tools, fly defense, and recovery products close enough to use between classes.

Recommended path: shop horse show essentials, add horse recovery kit products, and compare Best Horse Care Picks.

Walk the horse, watch attitude and breathing, then check legs, back, and tack-contact areas.

Should I fully untack?

It depends on timing, weather, class schedule, and the horse. Prioritize comfort and inspection.

What should stay nearby?

Towels, grooming tools, recovery products, fly defense, and water access should be easy to reach.
